Vijay Aggarwal, PhD
Chief Executive Officer & President
Dr. Aggarwal is President and CEO of Aureon Laboratories. He has over 20 years of senior executive experience in both pharmaceutical services and clinical diagnostics. Previously, he served as President of AAI Development Services, a company dedicated to providing contract research and development services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. In addition, Dr. Aggarwal has held the positions of President, Quest Diagnostic Ventures where he had responsibility for new technology, new business models, clinical trials testing, and direct to consumer strategies. Prior to Quest Diagnostics, Dr. Aggarwal held positions with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories (SBCL), including direct responsibility for all of SBCL’s U.S.-based laboratories as Executive Vice President of Laboratories, Vice President of Managed Care and several general management, laboratory operational and business development roles.


Robert Shovlin
Chief Operating Officer
Shovlin joined Aureon Laboratories in June of 2005 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Prior to joining Aureon, Shovlin was the Executive Director of anatomic pathology for Quest Diagnostics Incorporated (NYSE: DGX), a $5 billion clinical laboratory. In this role he had national responsibility for Quest Diagnostics’ $500 million anatomic pathology business. Shovlin also previously held a regional sales director position managing $1 billion of health plan customer business for Quest Diagnostics. Before working at Quest Diagnostics, Shovlin held several sales and sales management roles at DIANON Systems, Inc. a $200 million specialty anatomic pathology laboratory. Shovlin is a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps who holds a B.S. from Penn State University and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University.


Ana Stancic
Chief Financial Officer
Stancic is responsible for finance, corporate governance and controls, and debt and equity markets. Stancic brings to Aureon an extensive background in the financial management of healthcare companies. Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at OMRIX Biopharmaceuticals. In 2004, prior to her tenure at OMRIX, Stancic joined ImClone Systems, Inc. as Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer and was subsequently promoted to Senior Vice President of Finance where she was responsible for ImClone’s finance department, information technology and internal audit. Stancic also served as Vice President and Controller at Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; as Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer at Ogden Corporation; and as Regional Chief Financial Officer at OmniCare, Inc. Stancic is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University Business School.


Charles J. DiComo, PhD
Director of Laboratories
Dr. DiComo has been with Aureon since its inception and was instrumental in the original design and build-out of the corporate offices and CLIA-certified / CAP-accredited clinical laboratories, including the company’s Prognostic Services and R&D facilities. Prior to joining Aureon, Dr. DiComo was Laboratory Head/Research Associate in the Division of Molecular Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center under the leadership of Dr. Carlos Cordon-Cardo as a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Research Special Fellow. In this capacity, Dr. DiComo managed and coordinated day-to-day operations of the molecular and histopathology laboratory, assisted in the scientific direction of post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and technicians, conducted independent research as part of the New York p53 Consortium, and developed state-of-the-art molecular pathology methodologies. Prior to MSKCC, Dr. DiComo was a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Fellow at Columbia University in the Department of Biological Sciences under the tutelage of Dr. Carol Prives. Dr. DiComo completed his graduate studies at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories through a joint program with SUNY. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, such as Clinical Cancer Research, Oncogene and Cell. Charles holds a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology and an M.S. in molecular and cellular genetics from Long Island University – C.W. Post Campus, as well as a Ph.D. in genetics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.


Ricardo Mesa-Tejada, MD
Vice President, Pathology & Medical Director

Dr. Mesa-Tejada trained in anatomic pathology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University where he served as full-time faculty for ten years and presently holds a part-time appointment as Associate Clinical Professor. While primarily engaged in breast cancer research at Columbia, his emphasis on the use immunologic and molecular tissue localization techniques led to his recruitment by MetPath Laboratories, presently Quest Diagnostics, where he founded and directed the Molecular Tissue Pathology Laboratory at its Teterboro, NJ headquarters for ten years. Dr. Mesa-Tejada has been a member of several NIH/NCI scientific review panels and presently serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Norma F. Phriem Breast Care Center, Fairfield/Bridgeport, CT, and the Boards of the Society for Applied Immunohistochemistry and American Fertility Services, New York, NY. Prior to joining Aureon, he was a consultant to several specialty pathology laboratories and biotechnology companies, and was Senior VP - Health Sciences at Thieme Consulting, Inc., the consulting branch of Thieme Associates, a New York-based global financial services group.


Derek Tranzillo
Director, Finance & Administration

Mr. Tranzillo is the Director of Finance and Administration at Aureon Laboratories. He has over 27 years experience in the finance, accounting and operations areas of medical research, real estate and relocation along with real estate financing organizations. Mr. Tranzillo has been with Aureon since its inception and was instrumental in the creation of Aureon’s financial systems along with the financial negotiations for construction of their corporate offices and laboratories. Prior to Aureon, Mr. Tranzillo was the Director of Operations at the Picower Institute for Medical Research. He held prior appointments as the Financial Director and Regional Controller for PHH Corporation’s northeast region, where he oversaw the purchase and resale of over 1.3 billion in residential real estate annually. He has also owned and operated his own business in residential real estate development.


Peter Duncan
Vice President, Business Development

Mr. Duncan joined Aureon Laboratories in December of 2006 as Vice President of Business Development. Peter has over 12 years executive sales, marketing and business development experience spanning the analytical chemistry, biotechnology, and diagnostic industries. Prior to Aureon, Mr. Duncan was Senior Product Manager at Agencourt Bioscience where he coordinated a four company collaboration (Affymetrix, NuGEN, Beckman Coulter, Agencourt) to accelerate automated whole blood expression profiling on GeneChip® Microarrays for Affymetrix Clinical Service Laboratories. Additionally, he oversaw development, launch, and promotion of six products in six months and established several key collaborations with leading pharmaceutical and academic thought leaders. Prior to Agencourt Bioscience, Mr. Duncan worked for Applied Biosystems and Quantum Dot, where he helped position the company for acquisition by Invitrogen Corp. Peter is a member of the Licensing Executive Society, Boston chapter.
